Wasted a Day Waiting for Materials

Lots of delays and push backs on the delivery of the materials. It did give us all day to make sure the forms were ready enough to mix and pour concrete.

 

Lost a Lot of Beach out at False Bluff

 

It had been many years since we had lost so much beach from False Bluff.  An early winter storm with a north / south current did some damage to our beach and coconut trees.

Getting materials brough in for the seawall took longer than expected.  We were finally able to get enough rock to move onto the next phase of constructing the seawall.

Now that the foundation of the seawall is almost complete I start working on the plan on how to cap it with concrete.

After a few weeks away it was good to be back in Bluefields to finish up the earthbag portion of the seawall.

Last Day to Work on the Earthbag Seawall

 

I was able to get a lot of material over to the lot on my final work day this trip, but I did not have enough time to get any of the earthbag seawall up.

Going to Build an Earthbag Seawall

 

We were able to gather rock and dirt from a construction site nearby.  Instead of trying to shovel it into a truck I decided to fill bags and transport them to the lot.  The bags could then be used as earthbags for the seawall.

We started the seawall in town a few months ago.  This will extend the lot and give us a place to build so everyone can get access False Bluff easier.

 Beginning the process of bringing backfill onto the lot to level it up and then begin to extend it.

 After the house was demolished the rubble was leveled to provide a solid base to put backfill onto.

Demoltion Day

 The house purchased in town was built on a rubble foundation and would not be suitable for building onto.  The house was demolished and the lot is being extended to provide a large area for a new house / port which will allow for better access back and forth to False Bluff.
